1.     When will the application materials ready for September 2008 intake?

The application materials for admission to most of taught postgraduate programmes in September 2008 will be available in January 2008.  You may visit our website at https://www/hku/hk/rss/online or https://www.hku.hk/rss/pp2008 by that time.

 

2.          What is the basic requirement for admission to taught postgraduate programme?

Applicants seeking for admission to a taught postgraduate programme should satisfy the minimum entrance requirement for particular programme.  Please refer to our website at https://www/hku/hku/rss/online or https://www.hku.hk/rss/pp2008 for details.

 

3.          My University does not classify graduates into categories of honours.  Am I eligible for admission?

We will determine your equivalent honours classification based on the information in your final academic transcripts.

 

4.          When is the deadline for submitting my application?

Application deadlines for taught postgraduate applications can be found from the current Postgraduate Prospectus or at website https://www.hku.hk/rss/pp2008

 

5.          What documents do I need to submit to support my application?

Please refer to the ¡§Supporting Documents¡¨ provided in our website at https://www.hku.hk/rss/online.

 

6.          Can I apply for more than one taught postgraduate programme?

You can apply for more than one taught postgraduate programme.  You should submit an application with full set of supporting documents and pay the application fee for each application.

 

7.          How much is the application fee and how should I pay for it?

The application fee for each postgraduate curriculum is HK$300 (non-refundable).  Payment by cash will NOT be accepted.

8.          How do I know whether the Research Services has received my application form?

We will send you an acknowledgement email within 2 working days if you have submitted an online application.

 

 

9.          Does the University require applicants to take English Language Tests?

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required to obtain

 

l          Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) (taken with a two-year period) (The Hong Kong University¡¦s TOEFL code is 9671)

 

Paper-based test

An overall score of 550 or above except the programmes of M.A. in Chinese Historical Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Chinese Language Subject Knowledge for Graduate Teachers require a TWE score 4.0 or above in addition to the test.

Computer-based test

An overall score of 213 or above except the programmes of M.A. in Chinese Historical Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Chinese Language Subject Knowledge for Graduate Teachers require a TWE score 4.0 or above in addition to the test.

Internet-based test

An overall score of 80 or above except the programmes of M.A. in Chinese Historical Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Chinese Language Subject Knowledge for Graduate Teachers require a TWE score 4.0 or above in addition to the test.

 

l          International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (taken within a two-year period)

Faculty of Arts: Band 7 with no subtest lower than 5.5

Other Faculties: Band 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5

 

l          Grade C or above in the Overseas General Certificate of Education (GCE) 

l          Grade C or above in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

l          Grade C or above in the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language

 

 

10.      When will the result be announced?

Please refer to the first page of ¡§Programme Information¡¨ provided in our website.  If you can¡¦t find the date, please contact the relevant Faculties directly. 

 

11.   Are photocopies of transcripts and certificates acceptable to the University?

Please submit officially certified certificates and complete official transcripts of your undergraduate and postgraduate studies.  Documents which are not in English should be accompanied by a formally certified translation in English. 

 

12.  What does a ¡§certified true copy¡¨ mean?

It is a copy of a document that has been duly declared as a true copy before a notary public (e.g. Commissioner for Oaths at a City District Office, Hong Kong SAR Government), or certified by the appropriate office/department of your institution.
